Description:
Neosporin Ointment is used for Chronic wounds, Superficial ocular infections, Bacterial skin infection, Acute skin injuries, Bacterial skin infections, Microbial infection, Urinary tract infection, Skin infection due to wounds, Cuts or burns, Mediastinitis after median sternotomy, Infections of the urinary tract and other conditions. Neosporin Ointment may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Neosporin Ointment contains Bacitracin Topical, Neomycin Topical and Polymyxin B Topical as Active ingredients.
Neosporin Ointment works by decreasing the risk of mediastinitis after cardiac surgery; possessing antimicrobial Activity; inhibiting the growth of bacteria;
Interactions / Warnings:
Let your doctor know if you are sensitive to Bacitracin, Neomycin, Polymyxin B, or other medications. Aminoglycoside antibiotics like Neomycin are highly absorbed when applied on burned skin and can also cause kidney problems. Let your doctor know if you have kidney disease, myasthenia gravis (neuromuscular disease), or Parkinson's disease (a brain disorder that affects movement) before using Neomycin. Prolonged use of Neosporin Skin Ointment 30 gm can cause an overgrowth of other microorganisms like fungi and develop bacterial resistance. Bacterial keratitis (an infection of the cornea) and ocular infections (eye infections) may also develop when topical eye products of Neosporin Skin Ointment 30 gm get contaminated by patients with eye diseases. Avoid contacting Neosporin Skin Ointment 30 gm dispensing containers with eyes, eyelids, fingers, and other surfaces to prevent contamination. Avoid applying Neosporin Skin Ointment 30 gm cream on sunburns, lesions, blisters, and open wounds. Neosporin Skin Ointment 30 gm contains Neomycin, which may have harmful effects on the baby; hence Neosporin Skin Ointment 30 gm should be used with caution in pregnancy under your doctor's supervision. Let your doctor know if you plan to become pregnant or already pregnant and a lactating mother. If you apply Neosporin Skin Ointment 30 gm to breasts or nipples for treatment, wash it off while nursing your baby.
