Description:

Xmet Sr 500mg Tablet belongs to the therapeutic classification of Antidiabetic Agents. The primary composition for this medicine is Metformin 500 MG.

Uses / Indications:

Xmet Sr Tablet is used to reduce the high blood sugar level due to improper production or use of insulin in the body (also called, type 2 diabetes mellitus). It works by lowering the amount of glucose in the body. It also increases the response of the body to insulin. Xmet Sr Tablet may also be used together with other medicines to treat certain conditions as recommended by the doctor. It is used in combination with sulphonylureas to lower the total cholesterol levels in the blood and may increase the risk of low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).

Interactions / Warnings:

Some diabetic patients taking Xmet Sr Tablet 15's may develop a serious condition called lactic acidosis. In lactic acidosis, there is too much lactic acid accumulated in the blood. So, your liver and kidney proper functioning is required for the elimination of excess lactic acid from the blood. You should not take metformin if you have kidney disease, as measured by a blood test. Xmet Sr Tablet 15's may lower vitamin B-12 levels, so try to have blood test annual blood and vitamin. Xmet Sr Tablet 15's, when used with insulin, may extremely lower the blood sugar level. So, the doctor may lower the dose of insulin.

Side Effects:

Low blood sugar signs include, anger, shaking, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or sweating. Keep hard candies, glucose tablets, liquid glucose, or juice on hand for low blood sugar. - Belly pain. - Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. - Loose stools (diarrhea). - Not hungry. - Bad taste in your mouth. This most often goes back to normal. - Too much acid in the blood (lactic acidosis) may rarely happen.

Medicine interaction:

Xmet Sr Tablet 15's interacts with an anti-depressant (bupropion), drugs used to treat glaucoma, antibiotics (cephalexin, ciprofloxacin), anti-acidity drugs (cimetidine), heart condition drugs (digoxin), anti-HIV drugs (dolutegravir), ethanol, saliva reducing drugs (glycopyrrolate), iodinated X-ray contrast agents, anti-epileptic drugs (topiramate, lamotrigine), heart-related chest medicine (ranolazine). Other drug interactions can contribute to an increased low blood sugar including sex hormones (androgens), anti-oxidant (alpha-lipoic acid), painkillers (aspirin), anti TB drugs (prothionamide), growth hormones (pegvisomant), and other antidiabetic medicines.
