Description:

Supermet XL is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. A lower blood pressure can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Supermet XL is also used to treat severe chest pain (angina) and lowers the risk of repeated heart attacks. It is given to people who have already had a heart attack. In addition, Supermet XL is used to treat patients with heart failure. Supermet XL is a beta-blocker. It works by affecting the response to nerve impulses in certain parts of the body, like the heart. As a result, the heart beats slower and decreases the blood pressure. When the blood pressure is lowered, the amount of blood and oxygen is increased to the heart. Supermet XL is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Uses / Indications:

Supermet XL 50 Tablet is used to treat certain heart conditions including high blood pressure, heart attack, and abnormal heart rhythm (tachyarrhythmia). This medicine is also used for the long-term treatment of chest pain (angina pectoris). It is a prescription medicine. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure. Supermet XL 50 is also used to prevent migraine. Supermet XL 50 Tablet may also be taken in combination with other medicines to treat certain conditions as recommended by the doctor. Supermet XL 50 Tablet is used together with other antihypertensive agents to treat high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure.

Interactions / Warnings:

Don't stop taking Supermet XL 50 Tablet 15's without talking to your doctor first. Stopping Supermet XL 50 Tablet 15's gradually may cause changes in your heart rhythm and blood pressure, cause chest pain, or a heart attack. Your doctor will lower your dose gradually over a period of time to help prevent these symptoms. You should not use Supermet XL 50 Tablet 15's if you have very slow heartbeat, serious lung condition (like asthma), serious heart condition (sick sinus syndrome), or any heart blockage. It should not be given to the children less than 12 years of age. Before taking Supermet XL 50 Tablet 15's you should tell doctor if you have any muscle disorder (myasthenia gravis, rhabdomyolysis), breathing problem (COPD, bronchitis, emphysema), low blood sugar level (hypoglycaemia), low blood pressure (hypotension), depression, previous heart failure, liver/kidney disease, thyroid hormone disorder like overActive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), adrenal gland cancer, or severe blood circulation problem (Raynaud’s syndrome).

Side Effects:

Signs of an allergic reaction to Supermet XL: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: very slow heartbeats, a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out, shortness of breath (even with mild exertion), swelling, rapid weight gain or cold feeling in your hands and feet. Common Supermet XL side effects may include: dizziness, tired feeling, confusion, memory problems, nightmares, trouble sleeping, diarrhea or mild itching or rash.

Medicine interaction:

Supermet XL 50 Tablet 15's may interact with other blood pressure lowering pills or beta-blockers (acebutolol, atenolol, bisoprolol, carteolol, esmolol, metoprolol, nadolol, nebivolol or sotalol) causing a dangerous drop in the heart rate. Besides this, Supermet XL 50 Tablet 15's should not be used with other blood pressure related medicines (lisinopril, enalapril, diltiazem, prazosin, terazosin, doxazosin), asthma medications (theophylline, aminophylline), pain killers, antifungals (terbinafine), anticancer (aldesleukin), blood thinner (dipyridamole), antibiotics (rifampicin), antivirals (ritonavir), antihistamines used to treat hay fever (diphenhydramine), medicines used to treat irregular heartbeat (amiodarone, propafenone, quinidine, disopyramide, tocainide, procainamide, ajmaline, flecainide, digitalis glycosides such as digoxin, lidocaine). If you are using these medicines tell your doctor before taking Supermet XL 50 Tablet 15's.
