Description:
Zifi Drops is a prescription medicine that is used to treat certain bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, ear infections, throat infections including pharyngitis and tonsillitis, and sexually transmitted infections, such as, gonorrhea, that are affecting the urethra and rectum. Zifi Drops is also used to treat worsening symptoms of severe cases of bronchitis.
Uses / Indications:

Interactions / Warnings:
Do not take Zifi Drops 10 ml if you are allergic to Zifi Drops 10 ml or other macrolide antibiotics. Hypersensitivity reactions including shock and fatalities have been reported with Zifi Drops 10 ml. Discontinue use if there is a reaction and reach out to your doctor immediately. Tell your doctor if you have liver problems (jaundice), muscle problem (myasthenia gravis), heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia), electrolyte imbalance (low potassium or magnesium level). In rare case, use of Zifi Drops 10 ml can cause diarrhoea, so in case if you have watery or bloody diarrhoea, stop taking Zifi Drops 10 ml and call your doctor. However, do not take any anti-diarrheal medicine until your doctor tells you. It is not known whether Zifi Drops 10 ml harms the baby in pregnancy or not. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning for pregnancy or breastfeeding before using Zifi Drops 10 ml.
Side Effects:
The following side-effects may commonly occur when using Zifi Drops. If any of these side-effects worsen or last for a long time, you should consult with your doctor:
diarrhea
flatulence
gas
indigestion
Nausea
stomach pain
vomiting
The following side-effects may commonly occur in children when using Zifi Drops. Discuss with your doctor if any of these side-effects last for a long time or are severe:
diarrhea
Rarely, the use of Zifi Drops may cause the following side-effects:
an increase in the number of disease fighting white blood cells (eosinophilia)
blistering of the skin
decrease in the number of granulocytes, a type of white blood cells
dizziness
facial swelling
fever
headache
increase in platelet count
increase in prothrombin time
increase in the level of lactate dehydrogenase enzyme (LDH)
increase in the level of liver enzymes
inflammation in the kidney
itching of the skin
joint pain
liver disease
serious skin disorders
skin rashes
swelling of the lips, throat or tongue
temporarily increased level of waste products in the blood such as creatinine and blood urea nitrogen
vaginal itching
yeast infection
The following severe side-effects may also occur when using Zifi Drops:
Disorder of the skin or mucous membrane called as Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Symptoms: bleeding or blistering of the skin, flu-like symptoms fever
If this happens, contact your doctor right away.
Inflammation of the colon (pseudomembranous colitis)
Symptoms: severe watery diarrhea, feeling weak fever
If this happens, contact your doctor right away and stop using this medicine.
Inflammation of the vagina, called as vaginitis
Symptoms: itching in the vaginal area
If this happens, contact your doctor right away.
An abnormal low level of a type of white blood cell (neutropenia)
A deficiency of platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells called as pancytopenia
Brain disease called as encephalopathy
Symptoms: convulsions, confusion lack of consciousness
If this happens, contact your doctor right away.
Severe skin reaction
Symptoms: fever, chill, muscle pain severe blistering rash on the skin
If this happens, contact your doctor right away.
Jaundice
Inflammation of the liver, called as hepatitis
Anemia due to an abnormal breakdown of the red blood cells (hemolytic anemia)
Symptoms: nosebleeds, shortness of breath, bleeding gums, chills, pale skin tiredness
If this happens, contact your doctor right away.
Your doctor has prescribed Zifi Drops because they judge that the benefit is greater than the risk posed by side-effects. Many people using this medicine do not have serious side-effects. This page does not list all possible side-effects of Zifi Drops.
Medicine interaction:
Zifi Drops 10 ml may reduce the Activity of the vaccines including cholera vaccine, live, typhoid vaccine, live and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (is used in a solution to stimulate the immune system in the treatment of bladder cancer and as a vaccine to prevent tuberculosis). To ensure adequate vaccine response, you should not receive any above-mentioned vaccine, until at least 14 days after you complete your antibiotic therapy. Zifi Drops 10 ml can occasionally cause kidney problems, and using it with furosemide may increase that risk.
