Betamethasone (Betnovate-GM) dipropionate, are effective in the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses primarily because of their anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive actions. While the physiologic, pharmacologic, and clinical effects of the corticosteroids are well known, the exact mechanisms of their actions in each disease are uncertain. However, corticosteroids are thought to act by the induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, collectively called lipocortins. It is postulated that these proteins control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, by inhibiting the release of their common precursor, arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is released from membrane phospholipids by phospholipase A.

If you are allergic to Betnovate-GM Cream 20 gm, iodine or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, it is advised to consult a doctor before using Betnovate-GM Cream 20 gm. Do not use Betnovate-GM Cream 20 gm in more than prescribed doses, or for a prolonged time as it may cause adverse effects. Wear disposable plastic gloves or wash your hands after use if you are applying Betnovate-GM Cream 20 gm for others. Do not wrap or cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless advised by a doctor. Do not swallow Betnovate-GM Cream 20 gm. In case of accidental swallowing, consult a doctor immediately. If you have glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, adrenal gland or kidney problems, asthma, myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness), Parkinson’s disease or other skin problems, inform your doctor before taking Betnovate-GM Cream 20 gm.
