Information about Althrocin 250 Tablet

Description:

Althrocin A is a bacteriostatic antibiotic macrolide produced by Streptomyces erythreus. Althrocin A A is considered its major Active component. In sensitive organisms, it inhibits protein synthesis by binding to 50S ribosomal subunits. This binding process inhibits peptidyl transferase Activity and interferes with translocation of amino acids during translation and assembly of proteins.

Uses / Indications:

Althrocin 250 Tablet is used to treat certain bacterial infections which includes mild to moderate upper respiratory tract infections such as inflammation of the tonsil, throat, voice box, and cavities around the nasal passages, pus-filled pocket behind the tonsil, and secondary infections in influenza. It is also used to treat lower respiratory tract infections such as inflammation of the windpipe, severe inflammation of the lining of airways of the lungs (bronchitis), pneumonia, pneumonia of newborn baby, damaged airways of the lungs, pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria. Also, it is used to treat ear infections such as infections of the middle ear infection, outer ear, and bone behind the ear, eye infections such as inflammation of the eyelid (blepharitis) and inflammation of the eye of the newborn (conjunctivitis of the newborn) and oral infections such as gum inflammation and painful gums infection. It is also used to treat skin and soft tissue infections such as boils and pus-filled skin bumps (carbuncles), skin infection around the toenails or fingernails (paronychia), pus-filled pockets under the skin, pus-filled bulging patch of the skin (pustular acne), red sores around mouth and nose, bacterial skin infection. Stomach and intestinal infections including infection of the large intestine, inflammation of the gallbladder, inflammation of the small intestine caused by bacteria and other infections such as bacterial infection, bone infection, urethra inflammation that not caused by gonorrheal infection, gonorrhea, first stage of the painless sores in or around the mouth, genitals, or anus (primary syphilis), long-term bacterial infection of the lymphatic system, serious infection of the throat and nose, prostate inflammation, fever caused by bacterial infection, pelvic inflammatory disease and infections of reproductive organs and the urinary system (urogenital infections) during pregnancy, and uncomplicated urethral, endocervical, or rectal infections are also treated by the Althrocin 250. This medicine works by binding to specific cell site of the bacteria and stopping the protein synthesis. This medicine helps by stopping the growth of the bacteria. Althrocin 250 is also used to prevent pre- and post-operative trauma, whooping cough (pertussis), burns and complication of strep throat (rheumatic fever).

Interactions / Warnings:

Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, muscle problem (myasthenia gravis), heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia), porphyria (rare inherited blood disorders), electrolyte imbalance (low potassium or magnesium level). In rare case, use of Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's can cause diarrhoea, so in case you have watery or bloody diarrhoea, stop taking Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's and call your doctor. However, do not take any anti-diarrheal medicine until your doctor tells you. It is not known whether Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's harm baby in pregnancy or not. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning for pregnancy or breastfeeding before using Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's. Do not take Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's if you are allergic to Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's or other macrolide antibiotics, using cholesterol lowering drugs (statins like simvastatin, lovastatin), anti-gout or anti-arthritis drugs (colchicine) and medicine for treating overActive bladder (tolterodine).

Side Effects:

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Althrocin: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: diarrhea that is watery or bloody, headache with chest pain and severe dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeats, hearing problems (rare), liver problems--Nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) or severe skin reaction--fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling. Older adults may be more likely to have serious side effects from Althrocin, including hearing loss, or a life-threatening fast heart rate. Common Althrocin side effects may include: mild diarrhea or Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite.

Medicine interaction:

Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's have interactions with anti-allergic medicines (astemizole, terfenadine, mizolastine), anti-Nausea pills (domperidone), mental health pills (pimozide, amisulpride), anti-migraine medicines (ergotamine, dihydroergotamine), anti-cholesterol pills (simvastatin), bladder weakness medicine (tolterodine) and anti-gout/arthritis medicine (colchicine). Taking these drugs with Althrocin-250 Tablet 10's may cause serious side effects.
