Description:

K-Glim is used together with other medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. HIV is the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). K-Glim will not cure or prevent HIV infection or the symptoms of AIDS. It helps keep the HIV virus from reproducing, and appears to slow the destruction of the immune system. This may help delay the development of serious health problems that are usually related to AIDS or HIV infection. K-Glim will not keep you from spreading HIV to other people. People who receive K-Glim may continue to have other problems related to AIDS or HIV infection. K-Glim is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Uses / Indications:

K-Glim-M 1 mg Tablet 10's is a combination of two anti-diabetic drugs: Glimepiride and Metformin. Glimepiride, which is a 'sulfonylurea', acts by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas. Metformin, which is a 'biguanide', acts by lowering the glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from the intestines and increasing the body's response to insulin. In a nutshell, the two medicines together prevent the blood glucose levels from rising to very high levels thus keeping your Diabetes under control.

Interactions / Warnings:

Some diabetic patient taking K-Glim-M 1 mg Tablet 10's may develop a serious condition called lactic acidosis. In lactic acidosis, there is too much of lactic acid accumulated in the blood. So, your liver and kidney proper functioning is required for the elimination of excess lactic acid from the blood. You should not take metformin if you have kidney disease, as measured by a blood test. K-Glim-M 1 mg Tablet 10's may lower vitamin B12 levels, so try to have blood test annual blood and vitamin. Metformin when used with insulin may extremely lower the blood sugar level. So, the doctor may lower the dose of insulin.

Side Effects:

Stop using K-Glim and call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction from two or more of these specific side effect groups: Group 1 - fever, Group 2 - rash, Group 3 - Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, Group 4 - general ill feeling, extreme tiredness, body aches, Group 5 - shortness of breath, cough, sore throat. Once you have had an allergic reaction to K-Glim, you must never use it again. If you stop taking K-Glim for any reason, talk to your doctor before you start taking the medication again. K-Glim may cause lactic acidosis (a build-up of lactic acid in the body, which can be fatal). Lactic acidosis can start slowly and get worse over time. Get emergency medical help if you have even mild symptoms of lactic acidosis, such as: muscle pain or weakness, numb or cold feeling in your arms and legs, trouble breathing, stomach pain, Nausea with vomiting, fast or uneven heart rate, dizziness, or feeling very weak or tired. K-Glim can cause other serious side effects that may not be signs of an allergic reaction. Call your doctor at once if you have: the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild, signs of a new infection such as flu symptoms, chills, easy bruising or unusual bleeding, loss of appetite, mouth sores, severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), increased sweating, tremors in your hands, anxiety, feeling irritable, sleep problems (insomnia), diarrhea, unexplained weight loss, menstrual changes, impotence, loss of interest in sex, swelling in your neck or throat (enlarged thyroid), weakness or prickly feeling in your fingers or toes, problems with walking, breathing, speech, swallowing, or eye movement or severe lower back pain, loss of bladder or bowel control. Less serious side effects may include: strange dreams, headache, ear pain, cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sinus pain or changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, and trunk).

Medicine interaction:

K-Glim-M 1 mg Tablet 10's may interact with insulin, high blood pressure lowering pills (hydrochlorothiazide, amlodipine), water pills/diuretics (furosemide), heart failure-related medicines (digoxin), anti-hypertensive (metoprolol), steroids (prednisolone), thyroid hormones etc. So, tell your doctor if you are using these drugs before taking K-Glim-M 1 mg Tablet 10's.
