Information about Betnovate

Description:

Betnovate is a topical steroid. It reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and swelling. Betnovate is used to treat the inflammation caused by a number of conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis. The dental paste form of Betnovate is used to treat mouth ulcers. Betnovate may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Uses / Indications:

Betnovate Cream 20 gm is a steroid that is used to treat swelling, itching redness, heat and pain caused due to certain skin problems such as psoriasis (scales and itchy, dry patches), dermatitis (itchy, swelling of the skin) and eczema (itchy, cracked, swollen or rough skin). Betnovate Cream 20 gm acts inside the skin cells and inhibits the release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching and swelling. When the skin reacts to any type of allergens, such chemicals are released normally.

Interactions / Warnings:

Do not use Betnovate Cream 20 gm in more than prescribed doses, or on a large area of skin for a prolonged time as it may cause adverse effects. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, it is advised to consult a doctor before using Betnovate Cream 20 gm. Do not cover or wrap the treated area with a bandage unless advised by your doctor. Avoid using Betnovate Cream 20 gm for more than 5 days in children and on the face. If you are using Betnovate Cream 20 gm in topical form, avoid smoking or going near naked flames as the fabric (bedding, clothing, dressings) that is in contact with Betnovate Cream 20 gm catches fire and burns easily. If you have diabetes, psoriasis, glaucoma, cataracts, adrenal gland or liver problems, inform your doctor before taking Betnovate Cream 20 gm.

Side Effects:

Signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Topical steroid medicine can be absorbed through the skin, which may cause steroid side effects throughout the body. Stop using Betnovate and call your doctor if you have: blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights, uneven heartbeats, sleep problems (insomnia), weight gain, puffiness in your face or tired feeling. Also stop using Betnovate and call your doctor at once if you have: severe skin irritation where the medicine was applied or signs of skin infection (swelling, redness, warmtth, oozing). Common side effects may include: increased hair growth, burning or itching of treated skin, skin dryness or irritation, acne, skin rash, folliculitis (redness or crusting around your hair follicles), lightened color of treated skin, stretch marks or white or "pruned" appearance of the skin (caused by leaving wound dressings on for long periods of time).

Medicine interaction:

Betnovate Cream 20 gm may interact with drugs used to lower high blood pressure (metoprolol), pain killers (aspirin, ibuprofen), antianxiety drugs (alprazolam), laxatives (magnesium sulphate), blood thinners (warfarin).
