Description:
Telma AM is a combination of medicines that may be used alone or with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. Lowering blood pressure can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
Telmisartan (Telma AM) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, the blood vessels relax and this decreases blood pressure. When blood pressure is lowered, the amount of blood and oxygen that go to the heart is increased.
Amlodipine (Telma AM) is a calcium channel blocker (CCB). It affects the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. As a result, Amlodipine (Telma AM) relaxes the blood vessels and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart while reducing its workload.
Telma AM is available only with your doctor's prescription.
Uses / Indications:
Telma Am Tablet is a prescription medicine that is used to treat high blood pressure. This medicine works by blocking the action of vasoconstrictor agent which are responsible for increasing the blood pressure, by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to its binding site, angiotensin receptor. This medicine helps by reducing the increased blood pressure by exerting blocking actions on the angiotensin receptor. Telma Am Tablet is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or fatalities associated with heart failure in patients who are 55 years in age or older, who are at high risk of developing major heart damage events unable to take ACE blockers and patients with high blood sugar level (type 2 diabetes mellitus) with target organ damage.
Telma Am Tablet may also be used along with other medicines in the treatment of certain conditions as recommended by the doctor. It is used with Antiplatelet drugs, or lipid-lowering drugs to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or fatalities associated with heart failure in patients who are 55 years in age or older, who are at high risk of developing major heart damage events unable to take ACE blockers. It is also used together with hydorchlorthiazide, or other antihypertensives to treat high blood pressure.
Side Effects:
Signs of an allergic reaction to Telma AM: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
In rare cases, Telma AM can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. Call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have fever, unusual tiredness, and dark colored urine.

a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out,
shortness of breath (even with mild exertion), swelling, rapid weight gain,

pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest,
tremors, muscle stiffness or twitching or
high potassium - Nausea, slow or unusual heart rate, weakness, loss of movement.
Common Telma AM side effects may include:
swelling in your hands or feet,
fast or pounding heartbeats,
dizziness,
flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling),
back pain or
Nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain.
Medicine interaction:
When two or more medicines are taken together, it can change how the medicines work and increase the risk of side-effects. In medical terms, this is called as a Drug Interaction.
Your doctor's guidelines may need to be followed while taking this medicine along with potassium-sparing diuretics, which are used in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure. Telma Am is responsible for reducing the diuretic induced loss of potassium. Potassium-sparing diuretics such as spirinolactone, eplerenone, triamterene, or amiloride, potassium supplements, or potassium-containing salt substitutes may result in an increase in potassium levels in the blood. The use of Telma Am in combination with potassium-sparing diuretics should be done very cautiously and the levels of potassium in the blood should be monitored frequently.
Telma Am Tablet interacts with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents along with selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors (COX-2 Inhibitors), which are used to relieve pain and inflammatory conditions. The elderly patients, volume-depleted (patients on diuretic therapy), or with altered functioning of kidneys, a combination of along with Telma Am may result in abnormal functioning of kidneys including acute kidney failure. These effects are usually reversible. may reduce the blood pressure lowering effect of Telma Am. Monitoring of functioning of kidneys frequently in patients receiving Telma Am and NSAID therapy is required.
There may be an interaction of Telma Am with lithium, which is used for the treatment of depressive disorders. The use of Telma Am in combination with lithium has resulted in high levels of lithium in the blood and therefore, has resulted in lithium poisoning. Monitoring of lithium levels in the blood should be considered during the use of these drugs together.
Telma Am Tablet may interact with digoxin, which is used for the treatment of various heart problems. Telma Am given in combination with digoxin has resulted in increased levels of digoxin in the blood. The levels of digoxin should be monitored while starting, adjusting, and stopping Telma Am so that the levels of digoxin are within the range above which side-effects begin to occur.
Special instructions need to be followed while taking this medicine along with ramipril, which is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. When Telma Am is given in combination with ramipril, the maximum amount of the drug in the blood (Cmax), as well as exposure of the drug to the body (AUC) of ramipril and its metabolite ramiprilat is increased. On the other hand, the amount of Telma Am in the body is decreased. The increased efficiency of medicine may be observed due to the additive effects of ramipril and its metabolite ramiprilat along with Telma Am. The use of Telma Am in combination with ramipril is not recommended.
Your doctor's guidelines may need to be followed while taking this medicine along with alcohol; barbiturates, which are used to treat anxiety disorders; narcotics, which are used to treat severe pain, and antidepressants, which are used to treat depressive states. The use of Telma Am in combination with these drugs worsens orthostatic low blood pressure, which is the reduction in blood pressure while standing.
Telma Am Tablet interacts with corticosteroids, injection route, which is used for relieving inflammatory conditions. When Telma Am is used in combination with corticosteroids, the blood pressure lowering effect of Telma Am is reduced.
Special instructions need to be followed while taking this medicine along with baclofen, which is used as a central nervous system depressant and amifostine, which is used to reduce side-effects of cancer treating drugs. The use of baclofen and amifostine in combination with Telma Am and other blood pressure lowering agents may enhance the blood pressure lowering effect of Telma Am.
There may be an interaction of Telma Am with other blood pressure lowering agents such as ACE-blockers, angiotensin II receptor blockers or aliskiren. When Telma Am is used in combination with other blood pressure lowering agents, the blood pressure lowering effect of Telma Am is enhanced.
Telma Am Tablet may interact with diuretics such as thiazide, which increases the production of urine. The treatment with a high dose of diuretics such as furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide may result in depletion of volume and risk of low blood pressure when treatment with Telma Am is started.
