Description:
Amlodipine (Supermet AM) is a calcium ion influx inhibitor (slow channel blocker or calcium ion antagonist) and inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle.
Uses / Indications:
Supermet Am Tablet is used to treat certain heart conditions including high blood pressure, heart attack, and abnormal heart rhythm (tachyarrhythmia). This medicine is also used for the long-term treatment of chest pain (angina pectoris). It is a prescription medicine. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure. Supermet Am is also used to prevent migraine.
Supermet Am Tablet may also be taken in combination with other medicines to treat certain conditions as recommended by the doctor. Supermet Am Tablet is used together with other antihypertensive agents to treat high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure.
Interactions / Warnings:
Don't stop taking Supermet Am Tablet 15's without talking to your doctor first. Stopping Supermet Am Tablet 15's gradually may cause changes in your heart rhythm and blood pressure, cause chest pain, or a heart attack. Your doctor will lower your dose gradually over a period of time to help prevent these symptoms. You should not use Supermet Am Tablet 15's if you have very slow heartbeat, serious lung condition (like asthma), serious heart condition (sick sinus syndrome), or any heart blockage. It should not be given to the children less than 12 years of age. Before taking Supermet Am Tablet 15's you should tell doctor if you have any muscle disorder (myasthenia gravis, rhabdomyolysis), breathing problem (COPD, bronchitis, emphysema), low blood sugar level (hypoglycaemia), low blood pressure (hypotension), depression, previous heart failure, liver/kidney disease, thyroid hormone disorder like overActive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), adrenal gland cancer, or severe blood circulation problem (Raynaud’s syndrome).
