Information about Rozavel 40 Tablet

Description:

Rozavel (Rozavel) belongs to a a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins." Rozavel reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). Rozavel is used in adults and children who are at least 8 years old to lower cholesterol and triglycerides (types of fat) in the blood and to slow the build-up of plaque (fatty deposits) in your blood vessels. Rozavel is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in certain people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors. Rozavel is also used to treat hereditary forms of high cholesterol, including the heterozygous type (inherited from one parent) and the homozygous type (inherited from both parents). For the heterozygous type, Rozavel can be used in children who are at least 8 years old. For the homozygous type, Rozavel can be used in children as young as 7 years old.

Uses / Indications:

Rozavel 40 Tablet is used to decrease the amount of bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein (LDL)) and triglycerides in the blood. It is a prescription medicine. This medicine works by slowing down the synthesis of cholesterol in the body. This medicine helps by decreasing the amount of cholesterol that may build up on the walls of the arteries. Rozavel 40 is also used to raise the amounts of good cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein (HDL)) in the blood. It is also used to decrease the amount of cholesterol, fats, and other fatty substances in the blood in children with age of 10 to 17 years who have familial heterozygous hypercholesterolemia (an inherited condition in which cholesterol cannot be removed from the body). Rozavel 40 is also used to treat a genetic condition characterized by increased levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in adults (Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia). Rozavel 40 Tablet is also used to decrease the progression of the condition of the build-up of fats, fatty substances, and cholesterol in the arteries of the heart (atherosclerosis). Rozavel 40 is also used to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, and surgical procedures to restore necessary blood flow to the heart muscles.

Interactions / Warnings:

A prolonged intake of Rozavel 40 Tablet 10's may cause muscular disorders like myopathy and rhabdomyolysis with kidney damage. It is recommended that you should have a liver enzyme test regularly if you are regularly taking Rozavel 40 Tablet 10's. A person taking excess alcohol and affected with liver disease should consult a doctor before its intake. Caution should be exercised if you are taking any blood thinner or anticoagulants like warfarin or coumarin. At least 2 hours gap should be maintained between intake of Rozavel 40 Tablet 10's and antacids like magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. Increases in HbA1c and fasting glucose levels can be observed if a person is regularly taking Rozavel 40 Tablet 10's. So you should tell the doctor before having these diabetes tests. Patients with proteinuria (protein in urine) or haematuria (blood in urine) should tell the doctor before taking Rozavel 40 Tablet 10's, as it might require dose adjustment.

Side Effects:

Signs of an allergic reaction to Rozavel: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. In rare cases, Rozavel can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. Call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness especially if you also have fever, unusual tiredness, and dark colored urine. Also call your doctor at once if you have: confusion, memory problems, liver problems - Nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) or signs of a kidney problem - little or no urinating, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath. Common Rozavel side effects may include: liver symptoms (stomach pain, dark urine, jaundice), unusual weakness or tired feeling, headache, muscle aches or Nausea, upset stomach.

Medicine interaction:

Rozavel 40 Tablet 10's is known to contra-indicate when taken along with cyclosporine (organ transplants medicine), warfarin or clopidogrel (blood thinner), fibrates (gemfibrozil, fenofibrate), a medicine used to lower cholesterol (ezetimibe), antacid (aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide), antibiotics (erythromycin, fusidic acid), oral contraceptive pills, regorafenib (anti-cancer), anti-viral or anti-HIV drug (ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, simeprevir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, dasabuvir, velpatasvir, grazoprevir, elbasvir, glecaprevir, and pibrentsavir).
