Novastat (Novastat) belongs to a a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins." Novastat reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). Novastat is used in adults and children who are at least 8 years old to lower cholesterol and triglycerides (types of fat) in the blood and to slow the build-up of plaque (fatty deposits) in your blood vessels. Novastat is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in certain people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors. Novastat is also used to treat hereditary forms of high cholesterol, including the heterozygous type (inherited from one parent) and the homozygous type (inherited from both parents). For the heterozygous type, Novastat can be used in children who are at least 8 years old. For the homozygous type, Novastat can be used in children as young as 7 years old.

A prolonged intake of Novastat 10 Tablet 15's may cause muscular disorders like myopathy and rhabdomyolysis with kidney damage. It is recommended that you should have a liver enzyme test regularly if you are regularly taking Novastat 10 Tablet 15's. A person taking excess alcohol and affected with liver disease should consult a doctor before its intake. Caution should be exercised if you are taking any blood thinner or anticoagulants like warfarin or coumarin. At least 2 hours gap should be maintained between intake of Novastat 10 Tablet 15's and antacids like magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. Increases in HbA1c and fasting glucose levels can be observed if a person is regularly taking Novastat 10 Tablet 15's. So you should tell the doctor before having these diabetes tests. Patients with proteinuria (protein in urine) or haematuria (blood in urine) should tell the doctor before taking Novastat 10 Tablet 15's, as it might require dose adjustment.
