Description:

Metolar XR is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. A lower blood pressure can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Metolar XR is also used to treat severe chest pain (angina) and lowers the risk of repeated heart attacks. It is given to people who have already had a heart attack. In addition, Metolar XR is used to treat patients with heart failure. Metolar XR is a beta-blocker. It works by affecting the response to nerve impulses in certain parts of the body, like the heart. As a result, the heart beats slower and decreases the blood pressure. When the blood pressure is lowered, the amount of blood and oxygen is increased to the heart. Metolar XR is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Uses / Indications:

Metolar Xr 50 Capsule is used to treat certain heart conditions including high blood pressure, heart attack, and abnormal heart rhythm (tachyarrhythmia). This medicine is also used for the long-term treatment of chest pain (angina pectoris). It is a prescription medicine. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure. Metolar Xr 50 is also used to prevent migraine. Metolar Xr 50 Capsule may also be taken in combination with other medicines to treat certain conditions as recommended by the doctor. Metolar Xr 50 Capsule is used together with other antihypertensive agents to treat high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart rate to promote blood flow which further helps in lowering blood pressure.

Interactions / Warnings:

Don't stop taking Metolar XR-50 Capsule 15's without talking to your doctor first. Stopping Metolar XR-50 Capsule 15's gradually may cause changes in your heart rhythm and blood pressure, cause chest pain, or a heart attack. Your doctor will lower your dose gradually over a period of time to help prevent these symptoms. You should not use Metolar XR-50 Capsule 15's if you have very slow heartbeat, serious lung condition (like asthma), serious heart condition (sick sinus syndrome), or any heart blockage. It should not be given to the children less than 12 years of age. Before taking Metolar XR-50 Capsule 15's you should tell doctor if you have any muscle disorder (myasthenia gravis, rhabdomyolysis), breathing problem (COPD, bronchitis, emphysema), low blood sugar level (hypoglycaemia), low blood pressure (hypotension), depression, previous heart failure, liver/kidney disease, thyroid hormone disorder like overActive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), adrenal gland cancer, or severe blood circulation problem (Raynaud’s syndrome).

Side Effects:

Signs of an allergic reaction to Metolar XR: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: very slow heartbeats, a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out, shortness of breath (even with mild exertion), swelling, rapid weight gain or cold feeling in your hands and feet. Common Metolar XR side effects may include: dizziness, tired feeling, confusion, memory problems, nightmares, trouble sleeping, diarrhea or mild itching or rash.

Medicine interaction:

When two or more medicines are taken together, it can change how the medicines work and increase the risk of side-effects. In medical terms, this is called as a Drug Interaction. Metolar Xr 50 Capsule may interact with catecholamine-depleting drugs such as reSerpinane, which is used to treat high blood pressure. The use of Metolar Xr 50 with catecholamine-depleting drugs may cause a spinning sensation, fainting, or low blood pressure due to standing up from a sitting or lying position. Such patients should be closely monitored for low blood pressure or slow heartbeat. There may be an interaction of Metolar Xr 50 with anesthetics, which are used to induce a state of sleepiness and/or unconsciousness. Some inhalation anesthetics may increase the heart depressive effects of Metolar Xr 50. Metolar Xr 50 Capsule interacts with cytochrome P450 2D6 enzyme inhibitors. When cytochrome P450 2D6 enzyme inhibitors (fluoxetine, paroxetine or bupropion, thioridazine, quinidine, propafenone, ritonavir, antihistamines, diphenhydramine, hydroxychloroquine or quinidine, terbinafine, and cimetidine) is used with Metolar Xr 50, may increase the level of Metolar Xr 50 in the blood. It is advised to take necessary precautions while using Metolar Xr 50 and cytochrome P450 2D6 inhibitors in combination.
