Description:

Iopar-SR is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Carbonic anhydrase is a protein in your body. Iopar-SR reduces the Activity of this protein. Iopar-SR is used to treat glaucoma and to treat and to prevent acute mountain sickness (altitude sickness). It is also used as a part of some treatment plans for congestive heart failure and seizure disorders. Iopar-SR may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Uses / Indications:

IOPARSR CAPSULE belongs to a group of medicines called carbonic anhydrase inhibitors used to treat glaucoma, oedema (fluid retention), epilepsy, and to treat and prevent altitude/mountain sickness. Glaucoma is an eye condition that causes damage to the optic nerve due to abnormally increased pressure in the eye. Epilepsy is a disorder of the nervous system due to disturbed nerve cell Activity in the brain. Fluid retention is a condition in which fluids are accumulated in the body tissues.

Interactions / Warnings:

Do not take IOPARSR CAPSULE if you are allergic to any of its contents; if you have severe kidney/liver problems, chronic non-congestive angle-closure glaucoma, Addison’s disease, if you have low sodium and/or potassium levels or high chlorine levels. Inform your doctor before taking IOPARSR CAPSULE if you have lung problems, kidney stones, electrolyte imbalance, adrenal gland problems, diabetes, or heart problems. Avoid taking IOPARSR CAPSULE if you are pregnant, think you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking IOPARSR CAPSULE if you are breastfeeding. IOPARSR CAPSULE is not recommended for children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. IOPARSR CAPSULE might cause dizziness and drowsiness; so, drive only if you are alert. IOPARSR CAPSULE might make your skin sensitive to sunlight, therefore wear protective clothing and sunscreen whilst going out.

Side Effects:

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Iopar-SR and seek emergency medical attention: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face or hives), a sore throat or a fever, unusual bleeding or bruising, side or groin pain, tingling or tremors in your hands or feet or a rash. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Iopar-SR and talk to your doctor if you experience decreased appetite, Nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, or changes in taste, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, or weakness, nervousness or mild tremor, headache or confusion, increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, worsening gout, loss of blood sugar control (if you are diabetic), ringing in your ears or hearing problems or changes in your vision.

Medicine interaction:

IOPARSR CAPSULE may have interaction with cardiac glycoside (digoxin), blood thinner (warfarin), anti-diabetic (metformin, gliclazide), anti-convulsant (phenytoin, primidone, carbamazepine, topiramate), steroid (prednisolone), anti-glaucoma agents (dorzolamide, brinzolamide), anti-arrhythmic (quinidine), anti-maniac (lithium), immunosuppressant (ciclosporin), alkalinizing agent (sodium bicarbonate), and anti-hypertensive medicines.
